Surrendering sounds like giving up, giving away control, letting someone else decide. That’s why in our society, surrendering is not valued for the quality it is.
In this webinar I also surrendered. No Powerpoint, no plan, no control.
What emerged was an experience in which everyone could surrender themself. I shared why surrendering is so important for me and to what you could surrender. The participants added interesting concepts and ideas to what you could surrender.
In a meditation the participants experienced how to open up for something larger, let it touch them, maybe even move them.
With the input from the participants the session evolved and more topics were touched. How to surrender when you are busy. Surrendering to the country you live in. And more.
Finally, we explored with a constellation how you could surrender to the organism your company is.
At the end, I shared my upcoming events in which you can learn how to surrender more in facilitating business constellations or in running your business.

Webinar report: The Power of Surrendering
Opening: surrendering to the webinar itself
Martijn opened by sharing that he had intended to prepare a full presentation, but almost nothing came through. Rather than forcing it, he chose to surrender the preparation entirely and let the webinar emerge in the moment, together with the group. That set the tone for the whole session: surrendering as a living practice, not a concept to talk about.
Introduction
Martijn introduced himself as a business intuition expert from the Netherlands, working since 2007 with one-on-one coaching, team coaching, and training facilitators in systemic and constellation work. His mission is to change the way we do business by including intuition and the subconscious undercurrent, and by bringing a different view on what success in business can mean. He works internationally because everywhere in the world people are discovering this more intuitive approach.
Opening meditation: surrendering to what is
The webinar began with a guided meditation. Participants were invited to surrender to what is, right now: to notice what arises in body and mind without fighting or changing it, breathing in and out, and gently guiding the mind back to the here and now whenever it wandered. Lengthening the out-breath helps calm the nervous system and release tension. Feeling the feet on the ground keeps us grounded, because ultimately we are here on earth with this body. From that grounding, participants were invited to open up to something bigger: soul, God, universe, source, ancestors, life, the group energy, or the earth itself. Not yet a full surrender, but an openness to let a larger consciousness move through, give an insight, or simply be felt in the body. Afterwards, several participants shared in the chat that the meditation brought gratitude, an empty mind, a feeling of freedom, or a connection with a deceased loved one who told them surrendering to the soul is safe and beautiful.
What surrendering means
Martijn explained that surrendering is often the last thing we think of in business, where we are taught to take charge and be proactive. Yet it may be the most important thing: it allows something bigger than yourself to flow through you and aligns you with your business, your task, your client, and the market. It is not only spiritual, it is also very practical. Surrendering can happen on different levels: to yourself and your body, with your ancestors behind you offering qualities, advice, or holding space; to a larger consciousness or source vertically; to the field that arises between people, where answers and next steps are allowed to emerge rather than being forced; and even to the land and the country you live in and were born in. Acknowledging what is, is the first step of surrendering, and the opposite of surrendering is fighting, resisting, controlling, and managing. Importantly, surrendering also means embracing the not-knowing: not knowing what the next step will be or where it leads.
Participants shared in the chat what they surrender to: the rhythm of nature and autumn, the energy of abundance, Kuan Yin (the goddess of empathy), acceptance, health issues, a son becoming a teenager, disconnection in relationships, freedom of choosing, money, trust and contact with the womb, affirmations like “I am good enough,” the field while working with people, not knowing how the business will grow, and even tiredness and heaviness while running a business with kids. Martijn reflected that surrendering to tiredness simply means saying yes to it, and that surrendering can feel freeing rather than limiting.
Exercise: surrendering to the land
Participants were invited to connect with the land around them right now and with their birth ground, saying yes to both without having to like or agree with them, and to notice what changes in the body and what resources open up. The earth as a whole was included too, including both polarities: the nourishing land that grows food, and the destructive forces like earthquakes and floods. Chat reflections included a bigger sense of belonging, feeling held and supported by the land, feeling cold when connecting with the natal country (which is also simply acknowledging what is), and seeing the countries one lives in as land that feels rich and abundant.
Exercise: a mini constellation with your company as a living being
Martijn explained that a company is not just paper or a website, but a living being, and that connecting with it can open resources beyond your own effort. Participants took two pieces of paper, one with their own name and one with the name of their company as a living being (or employer, or a project), each with a direction as if they were two people in a room. The exercise unfolded as follows:
- Stand on your own paper and sense how it feels to be here, surrendering to everything you feel, with your company somewhere in the same room.
- Notice what happens in your body when you sense your company, and let any movement come up to adjust the positions.
- Step onto the paper of your company as a living being, and sense what wants to come through you: what it says to you, what resources it opens, what movement is needed.
- Step back onto your own paper and feel how it is now, then ask your body what it takes to surrender to your company.
- Breathe, thank the company, and close the exercise.
Participants shared experiences such as the company standing behind them as support, being told to go to the womb where it already is, receiving the sentence “let me flow,” advice to take little steps and reconnect to yourself, moving from being too close and surrounding the company to being an important element simply by being present, and feeling more relaxation and being able to move forward again.
Surrendering in facilitation and in life
Martijn connected all of this to his work as a facilitator: constellations are not a puzzle to solve, and neither is life or your business. Facilitation rests on three pillars: theory, process, and inner stance. The inner stance is this surrendering: connecting with your body, your ancestors, the earth, the universe, and the field, and letting the phenomenon speak instead of interpreting, fixing, or grasping. Sometimes things do not want to be shown, and that too must be acknowledged, because surrendering does not always lead to a happy ending, and that is something to endure. Taking charge can also mean doing nothing, waiting longer, or making a move only when the impulse returns repeatedly, because then you know the field is calling, not your own restlessness. This also applies to one-on-one sessions: the client always feels, while the facilitator surrenders to the movement that wants to be made and becomes the receiver or resonator, while staying aware of personal triggers. On the question of how to clear the mind, the opening meditation and release work were named, and participants noted that labeling often comes through the client.
Closing
Martijn briefly shared his trainings (Level 1–3 constellation trainings in Costa Rica, Réunion and the Netherlands, an online program for facilitators, a Dutch workshop on surrendering in business on November 13, and a business retreat in the Netherlands where surrendering will also be practiced), answered final questions, and closed with gratitude for being present together.
