Fear in Business

In this vlog I tell you more about how fear influences your business and what to do about it.

I want to talk to you about fears.

Right now, I’m sitting in the mountains, near a steep cliff. It’s quite dangerous, so I feel a little fear. And that’s okay. Fear is useful when it helps your body survive. At this moment, it makes me more alert, I feel a rush of adrenaline, and that’s actually good. It helps me stay careful and aware of my surroundings.

But most of the time, fear isn’t physical. It’s psychological. And the tricky thing is, your body responds to psychological fear the same way. You get stress, adrenaline, tension. But in that case, it doesn’t help you. In fact, it can get in your way.

As an entrepreneur, you’ll definitely face fears, especially mental ones. You’re trying new things, stepping into the unknown, dealing with success or failure. And that brings fear.

The key is to distinguish between physical fear and mental fear. Physical fear keeps you safe. Mental fear, on the other hand, doesn’t help. You need to let it go, or rather, face it.

That’s often the most powerful thing you can do: simply acknowledge it. Say to yourself, “I feel fear. I am not the fear, but I feel it.”

When I started walking this path earlier, I saw a sign that said it was dangerous, warning of falling rocks and steep drops. But I kept going. Because that’s what entrepreneurship is too. Sometimes you know you need to go somewhere, even if it feels risky. And if that’s the case, there’s no reason not to go. Just go for it.
